Forewarned's check screen, showing a passport that runs out on Saturday 15 April 2028, read from the code at the bottom of the photo page, with the other dates it found marked as the date of birth and issue date
Forewarned's list with car insurance due in 9 days at the top, then an MOT in 23 days, a gym membership and a passport that's fine until April 2028
Why it’s different

Months ahead for a passport, weeks for insurance

From a photo

Photograph the document, or type the date. Forewarned finds the date next to words like "expiry", "renewal date" or "valid until", and never the issue date.

Passports read properly

It reads the two lines of code at the bottom of a passport's photo page and checks their check digits, so a smudged digit doesn't give you the wrong year.

Never guesses

If no date has an expiry word next to it, Forewarned asks you to pick or type it, and shows you every date it saw.

Reminders that suit it

9, 6 and 1 month before a passport runs out. 4 weeks and 1 week before insurance renews. A month before an MOT, the earliest you can take it and keep the same date.

Next to renew, on your home screen

A widget shows the next thing that needs renewing, and counts the days itself.

How it works

Passports, driving licences, insurance, MOTs and contracts all run out on a different day, and the letter that tells you usually arrives too late or not at all. Forewarned keeps them in one list, sorted by what runs out next.

Photograph the document and Forewarned reads the date on your phone, shows you the exact words it came from, and sets reminders that suit it: months ahead for a passport, weeks ahead for insurance, a month ahead for an MOT. If it isn't sure which date is which, it asks rather than guesses.

Getting the most from it

Good to know

  1. Get the code in

For a passport, photograph the photo page with the two lines of code at the bottom in view. That's where Forewarned reads the date from most reliably.

  2. Check before you save

Forewarned shows the date it chose, the words it came from and the other dates it saw. If it picked the wrong one, tap the right one or type it.

  3. Mark it renewed

Use "Done, renewed" on the reminder and give the new date, and Forewarned starts counting again.

Questions

Asked and answered

Is Forewarned free?

Yes. There are no ads and no account.

Are my documents sent anywhere?

No. Photos are read on your phone and stay there. Forewarned doesn't send anything anywhere.

When will it remind me?

At 9am, at times that suit each kind of document, which you can change. For example 9, 6 and 1 month before a passport runs out, and 4 weeks and 1 week before insurance renews.

How much time should a passport have left?

Many countries want at least 6 months left on your passport when you arrive, so check before you book a trip. Forewarned reminds you well before that.

Forewarned is made by Partech Systems Limited.
