Why it’s different

Mahjong you don’t have to squint at

Tiles you can read

One big number or letter on every tile in a typeface made for low vision, with a plain mark for the suit. Extra large numbers are one tap away in Settings.

Every puzzle can be solved

Each layout has been cleared by a solver before you see it. If you run out of pairs, a free shuffle lays the tiles out again so they can still all be cleared.

Help when you want it

Undo as often as you like. Hint lights up a matching pair and says it in words; three hints a game are free, then a short ad of your choice gives another. Free tiles can be lit up so you can see what you're able to take.

How it plays

Sunroom Mahjong is mahjong solitaire, the classic game of matching pairs of tiles, laid out to be easy on the eyes. Every tile carries one big number or letter with a plain mark for its suit, instead of tiny characters and busy artwork. The layouts are made for a phone held upright, with fewer, larger tiles, and each layer sits on a thick coloured edge so you can see what's stacked on what.

Every puzzle has already been cleared by a solver, so you never sit down to a game that can't come out. Tap two free tiles that match and they're gone. Undo is unlimited, a hint lights up a matching pair and says it in words (three a game are free, then a short ad of your choice gives another), and when no pairs are left a free shuffle lays the tiles out again so they can still all be cleared.

There are three looks to choose from: walnut Teak, light Morning for a bright room, and black-and-white Midnight for the strongest contrast. And there's a puzzle of the day, the same for everyone.

Tips

How to play well

  1. Free the tall stacks first

Tiles under a stack can't move until the top is cleared, so pairs that open up a high stack are usually worth taking first.

  2. Look along the rows

A tile needs its left or right side open. Clearing the ends of a long row opens the next tile in.

  3. Think before taking two of four

When three tiles of the same kind are free, the one you leave behind matters. Leave the one that isn't blocking anything.

  4. Stuck? Ask for a hint

The hint looks ahead for a pair that still leads to a clear table. If there isn't one, undo a few moves, or shuffle for free.

Questions

Asked and answered

Is Sunroom Mahjong free? Are there ads?

Yes, it's free to play in your browser. There are never ads during a game and no banners. Your first ten games have no ads at all; after that an ad may appear between games, at most once every ten games and never twice within five minutes. Undo and shuffles never need an ad. The first three hints in each game are free; after that, a hint asks if you'd like to watch a short ad for it, and you can always say no.

Can every puzzle really be solved?

Yes. Every layout is dealt from a list that a solver has cleared, and a shuffle always lays the tiles out so they can still be cleared. You can still get stuck by the pairs you choose, which is what undo and shuffle are for.

Which tiles can I take?

A free tile has nothing on top of it and its left or right side open. Tap two free tiles that are the same to take them. Any flower matches any flower, and any season any season.

What's the difference between Easy, Medium and Hard?

The size of the layout. Easy has about 40 tiles, so they're at their biggest, Medium about 66 and Hard about 90. Free tiles are lit up in Easy; you can turn that on for every game in Settings.

Will I lose my game if I leave?

No. The game you're playing is saved after every move, so you can close the page or take a call and carry on later.

Where are my statistics saved?

In your browser on this device. There's no account, and clearing the site's data deletes them.
